There’s something amazing about Nigerian singer-songwriter Caralee when she refers to her sophomore EP as “Bad Guy Lee Vol. 1”.
The body of work takes us through the various shades of Caralee as an artiste and as a well groomed song writer too.
“Whenever I write or make music, I try to be very honest with my emotions because I want to share a part of myself with my listeners” she explains. “I am very open with my music, infact if anyone wants to know the kind of person I am or my beliefs then listen to my music”
Bad Guy Lee Vol. 1 is an exciting record, each song has been carefully selected to give u a happy feel, something you can relate to and enjoy. Here, Caralee talks about each of the tracks:
“In my Head”
“I recorded this song in Kaduna back in 2020 when I was serving during my NYSC. Initially I wanted to call it “one more dance” but I just felt that wasn’t going to capture the whole essence of the song. The song is the typical “love gone wrong” song. A lyric like ‘You don’t know what’s it’s like/ to be so Inlove but never feel alive’ depicts how one sided the love affair must be like”. I had Wurld in mind when I wrote it.
“Jeje”
“This song is one of my favorite songs ever. When I heard the beat, I knew I definitely wanted to write something everyone would love and equally dance to. I decided to use a good friend of mine as my muse because she’s beautiful and she’s an awesome singer too”.
“Heartbeat”
“When I recorded this song, I wasn’t sure about it. I think I’m a perfectionist at heart, I just don’t want to admit it but after listening over and over again, I began to see the appeal and it definitely had to make the EP”
“Nobody” (feat. Renegade)
“I love this song, I just can’t explain how much I love this song. When the producer was making the beat, I knew I had to jump on it and my close friend “Renegade” decided to jump on it too. I hope to make more songs with Renegade because I love what he brings to the table and I know in time we would make mind blowing records together. Lyrics like : ‘Vanilla ice/ pour on my thighs/ lick your way through all my dirtiest nights’ just makes you want to do naughty things”
“Omalicha”
“I have a feeling that this is one song everybody would fall madly Inlove with. I wanted something that sounded like an highlife song but at the same time something that would still be so me. The song is about a girl, a very attractive girl, the kind of girl everyone refers to as ‘Omalicha’. The funny thing is I drew my inspiration from a friends birthday party that I attended, we had a lot to drink at the party and I remember being so relaxed and happy that night. I also drew my inspiration from Amaarae, anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with Amaarae and her style of music”.
